Hi everyone! We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes and even got in a couple playtests during our New Hampshire trip.
We’ve put up the two convention scenarios we’re going to be running at Fall-In. These are intended to support up to 6 players but of course can be played with more or fewer as needed (we played with just 2 during testing).
The first one is Distress Signal, featuring two (hopefully) evenly matched sides fighting for control of a Derelict vessel. It doesn’t feature the Strike Craft system or a lot of jumping so it’s the simpler of the two scenarios and should be a fun space brawl with a solid boarding action.
That said, we haven’t playtested it yet so it’s possible that one of the sides is unbalanced – the ships themselves are asymmetrical, with one side having better agility and range and the other sporting better weapon power and armor. We instead tried to hit our Strike Craft system hard by playtesting the other scenario –
Things take a darker turn as the JHIS sends a bombardment vessel to wipe out a colony, with a Vandar detachment tasked with a desperate defense of the system.
This hit the table twice, and while Vandar forces won both times, the second attempt was a very near thing. The Aegis station crew valiantly fought a series of terrible fires and managed to keep itself in the air just long enough for the last Vandar ship to make a run on a heavily damaged Terminus as it stood poised to fire on the Colony. We were happy enough with the strike craft system to mostly keep it (we still made some simplifying alterations), and I have high hopes that it makes it into the final game in some form – a final game I feel we are rapidly approaching.
The scenarios are up on the Scenarios page and Nathan is in the process of revising the ships for them after our playtests – they’ll be up soon along with revised rules and you’ll once again have everything you need to play on the site.
